Christine Chard, PhD

Dr. Chrissy Chard, an associate professor in the Colorado School of Public Health at CSU and co-founder of Smart Fit Girls, Inc., will be the keynote speaker at the University of Northern Colorado’s Summer Physical Activity Leadership (PAL) Academy July 12.

The theme of this year’s PAL Academy is “Beyond Obesity: Benefits of Physical Activity for the Whole Child” and will support conversation on how school physical activity can benefit academic achievement, classroom behaviors, and social-emotional wellbeing for students and educators.

Dr. Chard’s keynote address will focus on “Moving Beyond Obesity – Why we must, why we should, and how we all benefit.” Chard also is an assistant professor in the department of Health and Exercise Science at CSU, and her research focuses on physical activity, self-esteem and body image in adolescent girls, as well as tailoring programming using Community-based Participatory Research. She teaches courses including Applied Behavior Change Theory, Physical Activity in Public Health and Health Promotion Programming.
