CSU students majoring in the Health and Exercise Science concentrations of Sports Medicine or Health Promotion have the opportunity to complete their BS degree and a Master of Public Health degree in just 5 years! And with healthy lifestyles being such an important factor in preventing illness and disease, this is a great combination of degrees that can lead to many different career paths in the field of public health such as wellness coordination, epidemiology, health education, and many more.

How can you complete both degrees in 5 years? This is possible by having students take some of the graduate MPH classes as an undergraduate student, and having these classes count toward both degrees. The following shows how the MPH classes would count toward the BS degree:

MPH courses taken as an undergraduateHow MPH courses apply to BS degree
PBHL 560: Quantitative Methods in Public Health (3 credits)BS elective
PBHL 570: Epidemiology for Public Health (3 credits)Replaces HES 345: Population Health and Disease Prevention (3 credits)
PBHL 516: Public Health Foundations (2 credits)BS elective
Approved MPH Elective (2-3 credits)BS elective

Eligibility

Students will apply in their sophomore or junior year, when they have at least one full academic year left before they will graduate. Eligible students should also have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30.

Application

There is one application cycle per year with a January 15 application submission due date. Students apply online to the Colorado School of Public Health through a system called SOPHAS. You will need to select your CSU MPH concentration of interest at the time that you apply, but this can be changed later as you get closer to finishing your BS degree and enter the MPH program. You can read about the different concentrations on our website.
